Singer Stan Walker has shared an emotional new excerpt from the documentary about his health scare, revealing the effect of his hospital stay on his family.

In the documentary, airing this Sunday, the 27-year-old entertainer lets the public in on his most intimate moments over his "life-changing" past nine months, which have included a number of health scares.

But as seen in a new trailer Walker shared on his Instagram page on Tuesday, the medical ordeal was just as hard on his mother.

"I'd rather me go before my children you know anyone would, any mother or father would... I've just got to block it out," his mother tells the cameras.

"It's been hard on my mum, she cries every day and she blames herself too," Walker says from his hospital bed.

In 2017, it was revealed the Hunt for the Wilderpeople star has the same cancer-causing gene mutation his mother has, which has been responsible for the death of at least 25 of their family members.

An estimated four out of five people who have the CDH1 gene mutation will develop stomach cancer.

In the caption on the video, Walker says that he thinks "half the people thinking I was on crack or whatever y'all were saying are feel pretty dumb right now".

"This is bigger than all the talkers talking. It's bigger than me. It's bigger than what's happened and is happening to me.

"All I'm gonna say is that I'm blessed to be alive and well. God is good and I've been blessed with a back bone of whanau & friends that go through the highs and the lowest of lows with me," he said.

Stan premieres on Three at 8:40pm on Sunday, March 25.
