Newshub's Samantha Hayes joins Dancing With The Stars NZ

Newshub's Sam Hayes is going to be waltzing from the Newshub Live at 6pm desk to Three's Dancing With The Stars NZ.

The presenter and reporter is the eighth contestant to be announced for the new show.

Despite her extensive on-air history with Three, Hayes has admitted she's actually nervous about the upcoming dancing competition.

"Who doesn't love being embarrassed in public?" she joked. "I do love a good challenge!"

Her charity of choice to benefit from her victory is one close to her heart, the New Zealand Riding for the Disabled Association (NZRDA).

The Milton-raised presenter grew up riding horses and teaching children to ride, and said she knows first-hand how beneficial they can be in a child's life.

"NZRDA work with 3000 people with disabilities every week. They set goals and through education, therapy and fun are really able to help them," she said.

"They have a waiting list and want to reach many more people and change more lives, and I'd love to help them do that."

Hayes will compete against previously announced contestants David Seymour, Marama Fox, Robbie Rakete, Roger Farrelly, Gilda Kirkpatrick, Jess Quinn and Chris Harris.

She will continue to co-anchor the Newshub Live at 6pm bulletin with Mike McRoberts through the week.

Dancing With The Stars NZ will be hosted by Edge FM afternoons host Sharyn Casey and Dai Henwood, face of Family Feud.

It will debut on Three later this year.
