Internet shocked by groom's refusal to let young daughter attend wedding as fiancée wants 'child-free' nuptials

Planning a wedding is a stressful time that can bring out the worst in some people - historically 'bridezillas'.

But one groom's conundrum over having his own nine-year-old daughter not attend his wedding because his partner "doesn't care for children" might just take the cake.

Posting originally in Reddit forum 'Am I the Asshole', the conflicted groom revealed he and his partner were planning on having no children at their nuptials because his fiancee "is a very sophisticated person with exquisite tastes".

The father of two explained that while his partner and his 18-year-old eldest daughter "get along well", she does not really "care for young children and this has created tension between her and my youngest daughter".

He went on to say the wedding was going to be "very expensive and lavish", and child-free "due to my fiancee's preferences".

"We will however be inviting be oldest she is no longer a child."

But the groom ran into trouble after discovering his young daughter "expected" to come to his wedding

"She tried to tag along with my fiancee and my oldest when they were going shopping for a dress for my oldest because she thought she needed a dress too," he explained.

"I explained to her that the wedding was going to be for adults only and she wouldn't be attending. She started crying and getting mad which stressed out my fiancee.

"She has been distraught about this for days and hasn't let it go."

His parents have now become involved - and told their son they won't attend if their grandaughter isn't there as they'll be spending the day with her

But the man still doesn't agree as the "wedding would not be suitable for a child".

"I don't want my fiancée to have to deal with my daughter on the most important day of her life," he explained.

"My parents told me I was being a terrible father by prioritizing my fiancée over my daughter and that on the day of the wedding they would take my daughter out for a special day, which means they wouldn't be at the wedding."

The post was screenshotted and shared into a popular wedding-shaming Reddit forum, by someone who captioned it "wowzas".

"Father is more interested than the aesthetics of his wedding than a lifelong relationship with his daughter," they added.

Others were more direct.

"The dad is a f**king idiot," one person wrote. "The fiancée doesn't want the child in the wedding because she doesn't even want the girl in their lives. I feel so sorry for that little girl.

"Assuming his whole family is going to attend the wedding where is the nine-year-old supposed to go while everyone at the wedding?" another questioned. "That is just awful."

"You have a child yet you are marrying someone who 'doesn't like children?' Then this bullshit?" added another.

It's not the first time a dynamic between a bride and stapdaughter has raised eyebrows.

Earlier this year, one bride was slammed online for suggesting her nine-year-old stepdaughter should wear shapewear to the wedding.
