A Queensland councillor is running a petition to force Dick Smith stores in Australia and New Zealand to honour gift cards sold before the firm's collapse.
Thousands of gift cardholders expressed outrage this week after the electronics giant's receivers said they would not honour vouchers or refund deposits on goods.
Ipswich councillor Paul Tully, who started the Change.org petition today, says Ferrier Hodgson has embarrassed those who gave and received gift cards over Christmas.
"The receivers have acted in a cavalier and unreasonable manner and should hang their heads in shame at what they have done to all the mums and dads, kids and battlers around Australia and New Zealand," he said in a statement.
More than 30 people had signed the petition by this afternoon.
