Kiwis wanting to save money on international flights should book more than seven months ahead, according to a travel search website.
Skyscanner has released data showing the best times to book flights to top destinations in 2016.
Spokeswoman Emily Callahan says with the Kiwi dollar fluctuating rapidly against the euro and US dollar this year, smart travellers should book cheaper airfares to stretch their travel budget.
The cheapest month to travel in 2016 is November, when travellers can save 8 percent on flights, compared to the most expensive month December, when prices go up by 15 percent.
The website recommends Kiwis book flights 29 weeks in advance on average to save 6 percent on flights.
However, it said that advice didn't apply to some spots such as Fiji and Japan, with travellers managing to snag the best bargain closer to their departure date.
The data was collated by analysing 250 million flight prices over the past three years.
