Auckland is continuing to be the new destination of choice for Asian airlines with Air Asia X commencing daily flights in and out of the city as of yesterday evening.

The daily flights are between Auckland and Kuala Lumpur, via the Gold Coast on an Airbus A330 aircraft.

Currently airfares are selling for as low as $329 one way from Auckland to Malaysia and $119 to Gold Coast.

Although it’s early days, Air Asia X is confident they can fill seats on the new route.

Benyamin Ismail, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia X Berhad was on board the inaugural flight yesterday evening.

"I am proud to say that the flight into Auckland today operated at over 95 percent flight load and we are confident that we will continue to see strong loads moving forward."

AirAsia X also offer a flat-bed product for $999 one way which may prove to be a strong alternative for the airline’s competitor on Kuala Lumpur route, Malaysia Airlines.

Air Asia X joins Philippine Airlines, Qatar and American Airlines as airlines who have committed to Auckland as a destination in recent months.
