MediaWorks appoints new board member

MediaWorks has announced it has appointed Jack Matthews to its board.

The position adds to the four board roles Mr Matthews already holds: Crown Fibre Holdings, Network For Learning, Trilogy International and APN Outdoor.

He joins current Mediaworks board members Julie Christie, Martin Dalgleish, Paul Lockey and chair Rod McGeoch.

In Australia, Mr Matthews has been the CEO of Fairfax Metro Media and the CEO of Showtime. In New Zealand he has been the CEO of TelstraSaturn.

MediaWorks, which owns Newshub, says Mr Matthews has extensive experience in digital media and in driving change in news organisations.

"I'm excited to join MediaWorks at this time in a media environment that certainly poses challenges but, more importantly, offers significant new opportunities for quality, established media brands, " Mr Matthews says. "I'm looking forward to working with the MediaWorks board and management to help realise those new opportunities."

The chairman of the MediaWorks board, Rod McGeoch, says the current board members and the company’s owners are welcoming the appointment.

"The board and Oaktree are delighted to welcome Jack Matthews into the company as a new board member and look forward to him making a very constructive contribution, which will at the very least maintain our new momentum, and at best increase it considerably!"

Mr Matthews begins his new role effective immediately.
