SmartStore the latest truck shop to plead guilty

Another mobile truck operator has pleaded guilty to misleading customers.

Smart Shop Limited, trading as SmartStore, on Monday pleaded guilty to 11 charges brought by the Commerce Commission over its loan contracts and extended warranty agreements.

It's the seventh mobile truck shop to be prosecuted in 2016, most recently Goodring and Betterlife receiving fines in the tens of thousands of dollars.

SmartStore is part of the Shop Direct group. It sold electronic goods over the phone and via door-to-door sales.

The court found SmartStore failed to:

provide accurate information about customers' rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act, or even tell them it existed.

The Commerce Commission says it has another 13 mobile traders in its sights.
