It might surprise you, but electricity prices are falling.

The Electricity Authority says that in the year to March 2016, the average residential cost per unit of electricity fell by 1.7 percent. That was the first fall in 15 years.

There are more electricity providers and more people are choosing to switch companies.

The authority has a website that allows you to compare prices: www.whatsmynumber.org.nz.

Meanwhile, the kiwi is making fresh gains against the British pound, rising to 54.80 pence.

Investors are pulling money out of the UK again due to renewed fears about the economic effects of Brexit.
