A new $50 million hotel is to be built in central Auckland, with opening scheduled for early 2018.
The Wyndham Hotel Group says the property will have 86 units and feature a mix of studios, one, two and three bedroom apartments. It will employ about 500 people during construction and about 50 when it's operational.
The Hobson St property will be the ninth hotel operated by Wyndham in New Zealand.
New Zealand Trade & Enterprise research published last month estimated an extra 26 hotels would be needed over the next decade above and beyond those already being planned and built.
Auckland was estimated to have a shortfall of up to 1,782 rooms.
