Some McDonald's restaurants have left customers disappointed after its latest chicken nuggets deal proved too popular.

The fast food chain recently offered Kiwis 20 of the deep fried delicacies for $10, but customers have been complaining of being denied the deal after some stores ran out of stock.

On Monday, Petone's McDonald's posted a 'sold out' sign on its menu.

"Came to McDonalds Petone to get a 20pk of chicken nuggets for $10 & they've sold out! [sic]" Atamira Te-Paki posted on the company's Facebook page on Sunday.

On the same day, another keen customer was disappointed at Timaru's McDonald's when she claims she was told she couldn't get the deal, despite the restaurant still having McNuggets available.

But McDonald's says that shouldn't be happening.

"We would be concerned if there were any cases where customers weren't offered the 20 McNuggets for $10 promotion and we will follow up on any complaints of this nature," McDonald's spokesperson Simon Kenny says.

"Our current Chicken McNugget promotion has proved to be extremely popular and some Wellington restaurants did experience a brief shortage of stock.

"Affected restaurants received more Chicken McNuggets with next stock deliveries. Most restaurants get daily deliveries and they can also shift stock if required from nearby restaurants.

"We're not aware of any other restaurants currently managing low stocks of Chicken McNuggets."
