As bitcoin continues to lead the boom in digital currency, other forms of cryptocurrency are surging in value.
A list of top performing cryptocurrencies created by an expert and posted to Twitter shows that in the past year, some forms of digital currency have increased in value by a staggering million percent.
New Zealander Craig MacGregor, founder and chief engineer of Nav Coin - a bitcoin alternative which has seen its value increase by more than 3000 percent in 2017 - compiled the list of the top performing currencies.
The top performing currency was 'Verge', which saw a staggering growth of over a million percent in value.
Verge was created in 2014 under the name 'DogeCoinDark' but rebranded to Verge Currency in 2016.
While Bitcoin currently sits over the NZ$20,000 mark, Verge coin is trading at a tiny fraction of that price, only coming in at NZ$0.30c.
However that doesn't mean there isn't money to be made from 'cheap' currency, the increase in value is what leads to profit.
Verge was trading at USD $0.00001991 in 2017 but now trades at USD $0.23c.
As Mr Macgregor points out in his Tweet, if you bought US$100 worth of Verge on January 1 2017, you'd be a millionaire today.
