A car involved in a fatal crash in central Dunedin early on Wednesday had earlier left a petrol station in the city without paying for gas, police say.
They have confirmed Invercargill woman Nakita May Strange, 18, was killed when the driver of a car she was a passenger in failed to give way at an intersection and hit a ute.
Six people were in the Ford Laser when it crashed and two remain in hospital. One has serious facial injuries while another has minor upper body injuries.
Police say the car had left a petrol station in the north of the city without paying prior to the crash.
