A Taranaki man who admitted murdering his mother will spend at least 16 years behind bars.
David Blake, 47, was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum non-parole period of 16 years, in the High Court at New Plymouth today, his lawyer Paul Keegan told NZ Newswire.
Blake entered a guilty plea in April to the charge of killing 71-year-old marriage celebrant Gwendoline Blake.
Ms Blake's body was found at her home in Stratford, south of New Plymouth, on January 30.
She was a well-regarded celebrant in the community, who immigrated to New Zealand from Liverpool.
