Dozens of homes in Auckland have been flooded as a short burst of wet, stormy weather swept over the city.
The Fire Service says it responded to around 100 flooding-related calls around the city between 6pm and 9pm yesterday.
Water was ankle-deep in some houses and there was severe flooding in a number of streets in west and south Auckland, but there were no reports of fallen trees or other damage.
Auckland Airport was also hit by the intense rain, with parts of the international and domestic terminals leaking and surface flooding on its road network, an airport spokesman says.
MetService duty forecaster Karl Loots says up to 70mm of rain fell in Auckland yesterday in an "intense" spell of bad weather.
