A fire in a dump for waste from the Canterbury earthquakes is still burning after three days.
The fire is being allowed to burn itself out and this may take a few more days, a statement released by Christchurch City Council said today.
The council, Burwood Resource Recovery Park Ltd and Rural Fire Canterbury are working together to manage the fire in the park.
It started on Thursday afternoon in a pile of recycled timber recovered from the red zone where earthquake-damaged houses were demolished.
Most of the timber has been burnt.
The fire is contained inside earth bunds and southerly conditions today are taking the smoke out to sea.
