Christchurch rebuild home wins supreme award

A happy ending has come out of one Christchurch homeowner's earthquake woes.

Their new home, in a new location, has won a supreme award in the Canterbury Registered Master Builders 2015 House of the Year.

"These guys were in Sumner, up in the hills, and they lost their home up there, so we worked with them and the insurance company to relocate them to Clearwater here, and they've picked a pretty special spot."

A special spot indeed – the home sits on its own hill and combines cedar wood, stone and steelwork.

A second Canterbury home also received a supreme award – a 1920s house that was so badly damaged in the February 2011 earthquake it has taken four years to complete.
