Two people have died after a circus tent collapsed in the US state of New Hampshire.

High winds from a storm are being blamed for the accident in the small town of Lancaster, which also injured dozens of people.

Witness Brandon Isham says circus workers seemed unprepared and the scene was utter chaos.

"The flaps on the side of the tent, they were open – they weren't tied to down to any poles or anything," he says.

"They started going crazy. People who were part of the circus, they just yelled 'run'… Next thing you know, the wind picked up… and took the tent with it."

Police say it was a father and his young daughter that were killed, and the incident is under investigation.
