The trial of a man accused of killing a man found badly beaten as people celebrated Christmas parties around him is to start in Wellington.
Cruz Mason Murray is accused of the manslaughter of 49-year-old Bruce Coker in the suburb of Tawa in December last year.
His trial will start in the High Court at Wellington today.
The 26-year-old was originally charged with assault. That was upgraded to murder, which was then reduced to manslaughter.
Mr Coker was found lying in Rossiter Street, where there had been a number of Christmas parties, on the night of December 20 and he died in Wellington Hospital three days later.
