A man has been arrested three months after breaking his electronic monitoring bracelet.

Armed police swooped on Evans St in Timaru this morning and found the man, who later appeared before the Timaru District Court on a charge of breaching bail.

Senior Sergeant Mark Offen says the accused slipped his bracelet off three months ago.

"We've been making enquiries since May in an attempt to locate the gentleman concerned, and we received information recently that he'd returned to Timaru," he says.

"When someone breaks electronic bracelet, there is no way of electronically locating them and you're relying on information from the public or associates to try and locate them."

The 31-year-old accused was remanded in custody.
