Prolific Sri Lankan batsman Mahela Jayawardene has signed up for Central Districts in this summer's domestic Twenty20 competition.
Although his final international T20 match was Sri Lanka's world championship final win over India in April last year, Jayawardene has shown good form in England's T20 Blast for Sussex Sharks and in the Caribbean Premier League for the Jamaica Tallawahs.
Jayawardene will play his first match for Central Districts against defending champions Wellington at Nelson's Saxton Oval on November 19.
CD have four more round-robin matches after that before finals weekend on December 11-13.
Central Districts coach Heinrich Malan says the vastly experienced Sri Lankan will provide a real boost for his team.
"Mahela's incredible talent and vast experience will add enormous value to our already talented, but still youthful, team of players," Malan said.
