A man caught on CCTV is believed to have been involved in a handbag snatch from an 88-year-old woman that left her bleeding and questioning humanity.
The elderly woman was walking along a Northcote shopping strip on August 27 when a man pushed her to the ground and stole her handbag.
He ran off while the victim was left with grazes on her knees and elbows.
A helicopter and police officers searched the area but the man was not found.
Analysis of CCTV footage reveals a man wearing similar clothing to the bag snatcher was nearby just before the incident.
He appears to be wearing a white t-shirt with BRKLYN emblazoned in black writing across the front, with a hooded sweatshirt.
Detective Sergeant Todd Bartlett says police need the public's help in tracking down anyone who may own the distinctive clothing.
"We know all too well from experience in this very area just what can happen during offences like this, and though the victim wasn't hospitalised, her faith in humanity has been shaken," he said.
"To anyone who knows this person we say, what if it was your Nana?"
"There should be zero tolerance for this behaviour in our communities and we appeal to anyone with information to get in touch."
