Police fear a man who was arrested for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Waikato may have attacked others.
The offending took place three years ago in Te Kauwhata, north of Hamilton, and the pair knew each other through a community organisation, Detective Senior Sergeant Whitehead said today.
A 19-year-old man, who has interim name suppression, has appeared in court and been released on bail with conditions that restrict him from having contact with girls aged under 16 years.
The man has had several employment and social roles that brought him into contact with young girls in northern Waikato and police fear he may have attacked others.
"Police are in the process of contacting each agency and social group concerned to ensure further offending is prevented and to identify any other potential offending," Sen Sgt Whitehead said.
News of the arrest was circulating in the community and police wanted to provide reassurance "as to the scope of the reported offending and the preventative actions taken", he said.
The man was bailed to an address outside Waikato and is banned from travelling to the region except to appear in court.
