A young man on bail has allegedly caused a five-car accident in west Auckland because he was running late for a funeral.
The 22-year-old man was spotted speeding through west Auckland at around 12:10pm today, prompting a police pursuit, though he managed to shake the chasing patrol car in traffic.
Soon after, the man was involved in a five-car crash which included two cars, a bus and a truck.
He was uninjured except for a dislocated shoulder from an earlier injury, police say.
Another driver involved in the collision had a small cut.
The 22-year-old man told police he was speeding because he was running late for a funeral and hadn't seen any police cars following him.
He was taken to North Shore Hospital to have his shoulder checked and was later arrested for dangerous driving and breach of bail.
He will appear in Waitakere District Court tomorrow.
