ANZ apologises for banking issues

ANZ's Eftpos and online banking services are back up after experiencing problems as the bank reported a record profit in New Zealand.

ANZ's bank services began experiencing issues about 9pm last night, and customers across the country reported problems with ATMs, Eftpos and online banking, as well as the company's mobile app.

About two hours later the company tweeted that full service was restored and apologised to customers who were affected.

ANZ has about half of the New Zealand market. On Thursday it reported a $1.77 billion net profit for the year to September 30, up 4 percent.

"More New Zealanders are preferring to bank with ANZ and we are now the largest mortgage lender across all major cities," ANZ New Zealand chief executive David Hisco said.
