AOS called to house in Lower Hutt

Police have confirmed no one was found inside a house in Stokes Valley, Lower Hutt, after the armed offenders squad (AOS) surrounded the property this evening.

The AOS and police were called to the house after reports of firearms inside.

Police used a loud speaker to demand the person inside the property came out, but no one emerged.

Up to five officers entered the property and found no one was inside. Police say no gun was found in the house.

A cordon was set up while a large crowd of onlookers gathered to watch the events unfold.

The incident is not linked to a shooting in nearby Taita overnight, but police say the Stokes Valley callout is related to another incident several days ago.

Koraunui School in Stokes Valley was briefly closed down as a precaution.
