Jury retires in Wellington schoolboy sex case

A jury has retired to consider its verdicts in the trial of a female teacher accused of a raft of indecent and sexual charges against a schoolboy.

Earlier today at the Wellington High Court, Justice Woolford reminded the jury of seven men and five women that they must reach a separate verdict on each of the 15 charges of indecent assault, sexual violation and unlawful sexual connection.

The acts the teacher is accused of are alleged to have taken place over a period of three years, when the boy was aged between 10 and 13.

The names of both the teacher and the student have been suppressed.

Police were called when another teacher confiscated the boy's phone, after she saw what she believed were inappropriate texts.
