A man has been arrested and charged after a stabbing in west Auckland which left someone with a stomach wound and prompted a manhunt.
The stabbing at 4pm started an hour-long police search in Titirangi, which ended with the arrest of a 23-year-old.
Police cordoned off parts of the neighbourhood as dogs and helicopters searched for the alleged offender.
He was found hiding in the ceiling cavity of an associate's house.
Police said they also found a gun and ammunition in the hiding place.
Another man was arrested at the house for possession of cannabis.
The stabbing victim has been taken to Auckland Hospital in a serious condition and he was undergoing surgery tonight.
Police believe the two knew each other.
The alleged attacker will appear in Waitakere District Court tomorrow morning.
He faces charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, unlawful possession of a firearm and two charges of unlawful possession of ammunition.
