Motorcyclist injured in Te Arai crash

One motorcyclist is seriously injured after hitting a car in Te Arai, north of Auckland.

Police were called to Waiteitei Rd just before 1:30pm today.

The Serious Crash Unit will undergo a scene examination.

Waiteitei Rd will be closed for some time, but diversions are in place.

NZTA spokesperson Mark Owens says motorists need to take care.

"If they can delay their journey and avoid that peak period that will make it easier for them and hopefully in the future people will be a bit smoother and shorter," he says.

"If they do have to go back they really need to just have patience because they are going find there's a lot of other people on the road."

In Wellington another motorcyclist has sustained critical injuries this afternoon, after a car U-turned in front of the bike.
