A 28-year-old man has died in Invercargill after being assaulted, prompting police to launch a homicide investigation.
Police were called to an altercation at a house on Dee Street, Invercargill at about 7.15pm yesterday.
The man was taken to Southland Hospital in Invercargill where he died of his injuries.
The scene has been cordoned off, police say.
Police have an alleged offender and are not seeking anyone else but have not laid charges yet, the Southland Times reports.
They are talking to people who were at the house at the time.
The investigation is continuing.
