The police dive squad will start an underwater search to recover a fishing vessel and its crew, after it ran into trouble off the Canterbury coast.
A distress call was received from the F.V. Jubilee at about 4.30am yesterday, but after a day of searching in rough seas only an empty life raft and other debris was recovered.
It was 12 nautical miles out from the Rakaia River mouth when the call was made.
Three crew were on board, but no details on their identities have been released.
