Police search for Upper Hutt man

The armed offenders squad, along with dog squads and regular police, have found an Upper Hutt man who had skipped bail and gone on the run.

An arrest warrant for Robert Bromley, 43, was issued at the Upper Hutt District Court yesterday. He had made threats earlier this week to harm himself with a firearm.

He was arrested just after 3pm today after being seen in a vehicle in the Pauatahanui area by an off-duty officer.

Police say he drove through the Upper Hutt area and on to 4WD tracks off Moonshine Rd.

After being spotted by helicopter he abandoned his vehicle. About an hour later he was found by police dogs in dense bush above the Hutt River. He was unarmed.

State Highway 2 has reopened following the operation.
