An Auckland McDonald's franchise has been left red-faced after serving a customer a burger with a bite already taken out of it.

Lakyn Taite-Allen took to Facebook after receiving a pre-bitten Big Mac at a drive through in Henderson.

"Went through Lincoln Road McDonald's today and received this unpleasant surprise – a bite out of my Big Mac!" she posted, along with a photo of the burger.

She said she went back to complain, but was told it could not have happened.

"All the manager could say was its impossible for this to happen as if I had tampered with it or something. Well guess what, I received not even an apology or an explanation," she said.

Fairfax Media reported McDonald's apologised today after CCTV footage showed the burger had been returned by another customer and then accidentally resold.
