Canterbury driver charged after double fatality

A driver will face two serious driving offences following a double fatality in Canterbury that left two Warkworth men dead.

Grant Wayne Corlett, 53, and David Anthony Evans, 50, were killed when their 4WD towing a trailer collided with a van on State Highway 1 near the Waimakariri bridge on Sunday, May 10.

The 4WD hit a tree and both men died at the scene.

Their deaths were among 11 on the roads over that horror May weekend.

The 34-year-old van driver will face court on November 23 charged with recklessly causing death and careless or inconsiderate vehicle operation causing death, a police spokeswoman said.
