A construction company has been ordered to pay $10,000 to a worker who was struck in the face by a chain.

True Green Homes, now in liquidation, was sentenced in the Christchurch District Court yesterday for failing to ensure the safety of employees.

A screw securing a chain around a wall snapped, striking the worker and causing a forehead laceration and eye damage.

WorkSafe found the screws were distorted and fatigued, and identified a number of other safety hazards.
