Left-behind licence leads to Whangarei burglary charge

A 19-year-old man who allegedly burgled a home in Whangarei over the weekend appears to have made a blunder that may carry hefty consequences: he left his driver's licence at the scene.

Police arrested the man yesterday after his licence was found at the scene of a burglary in Onerahi on Sunday, reports the Northern Advocate.

He has been charged with burglary and is due to appear in the Kaikohe District Court on Tuesday.

Andrea Jenkins told the Advocate thieves broke into her house, stealing, among other things, food from her fridge and freezer and pet food for her turtle.

After finding a licence apparently left by one of the thieves in her lounge, her brother then tracked its owner down and found the burglars eating the stolen food, she said.
