A 47-year-old man wanted in relation to an alleged sword attack in Hamilton last night should not be approached, police are warning.

Investigating officers say Pukekohe man Manjit Singh went to the scene where the alleged incident took place, a property in the suburb of Fairview Downs, at about 8pm.

"Emergency services were called following the attack," says Detective Senior Sergeant Ross Patterson. "We believe the woman has been assaulted with a sword and as a result suffered serious injuries."

Snr Sgt Patterson says another person at the house intervened in the attack, causing Singh to flee in an orange Nissan Serena van with the suspected sword, an axe and possibly a handgun. The van's registration is registration JDA146.

Singh, 171cm tall and of Indian descent, is now wanted in relation to a breach of protection order and for a serious assault on a woman.

Anyone with information as to his whereabouts is urged to contact police on (07) 858 6200, or alternatively through the anonymous Crimestoppers phone line, 0800 555 111.
