Hastings police are urging anyone with information about a man who died after his motorcycle crashed on Napier-Taupo Rd yesterday afternoon to contact them.

The 18-year-old, from Wellington, was driving a red Yamaha XJ600 on State Highway 5 when he crashed through an Armco roadside barrier at around 3:30pm, two kilometres east of the Te Haroto Summit Café.

The man was riding in a group travelling from Napier to Taupo, but no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

There is no indication at this stage how the crash happened.

Senior Constable Tim Rowe says police urge anyone who may have seen the motorcyclist on the road prior to the crash or when he crashed to contact Hastings police (06) 831 0700.

The man's identity will not be released until family have been notified.
