A man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting emergency services personnel attending a car crash near Queenstown.

The 54-year-old was a passenger in a car which hit a barrier on a corner in the Kawarau Gorge near Roaring Meg on State Highway 6.

He is alleged to have assaulted paramedics and firefighters at the scene.

Another 54-year-old man suffered a back injury in the crash shortly before 10pm last night and was flown to Dunedin Hospital.

The 24-year-old female driver is facing drink-driving charges and may face other driving charges, police say.
