A Christchurch engineering business has been destroyed by a fire overnight.
The Fire Service was alerted to the fire at Brian Ford Engineering in Rutherford Street, Woolston, around 1am.
Nine fire engines attended the blaze, which caused extensive damage.
Two fire engines were still dampening down hot spots at 6am.
Fire Service southern communications shift manager Lyn Crosson says fire fighters used a high-reaching ladder to fight the flames from a distance in case the building collapsed.
Ms Crosson says the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
