Waikato police urge parents to monitor their children's internet behaviour after electronic goods were sold online by 12-year-olds following the burglary of a Hamilton home.

A member of the public notified police that electronics stolen from a Patterson St home between December 13 and 16 were being sold on a Facebook page.

"Progressing our inquiries, we discovered some property had been taken back to the victims by the parents of one offender, and two of the group, who are being dealt with by Youth Aid, have made admissions in relation to the offending," says Hamilton city area commander Inspector Hywel Jones.

Insp Jones urges parents to make sure their children have adequate supervision over the holiday period "where young people find themselves with too much time on their hands".

He asks parents to question where their child got electronics from that they may turn up with, and to be aware of their internet activity.
