Corrections officer stands trial for inmate assault

A former corrections officer at the country's toughest prison is standing trial after allegedly assaulting a prisoner.

It's alleged Cody Harbour set upon Jackson Anderson inside the Paremoremo Prison in Auckland in January after an altercation over a missing pair of pants.

Anderson, who had been serving time for aggravated robbery, told the court he sustained broken teeth and a black eye.

Harbour's lawyer maintains his client hit the prisoner in self-defence.

The case has been adjourned for two weeks.
