A dog is undergoing treatment after being shot during a home invasion in the Auckland suburb of Northcote early this morning.

North Shore police are talking to nine people who were confronted by an armed man at the College Rd home.

Police say the alleged offender confronted those in the house with what witnesses described as an air rifle, took some property and then demanded more items.

When his demands weren't met, he shot a dog up to four times before leaving the house.

The dog was taken to an after-hours vet.

"We are hoping to get some solid information from the victims of this attack that will assist staff to locate him as soon as possible," North Shore Area Commander, Inspector Shanan Gray says.

Anyone with information on the incident should call the Waitemata DCC on (09) 488 9754 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
