A killer who stuffed the body of a man he had shot dead into a 44-gallon drum and dumped it in Whanganui River has been jailed for at least 14 years.
Neil Raymond Swain was found guilty by a jury last month of murdering Whetu Hansen in his ute at his Linton property in late November 2013.
The body of 48-year-old Mr Hansen has never been found, but his blood was found in the cab of his ute.
Swain, 57, was also sentenced by Justice Brendan Brown in the High Court at Palmerston North for unlawful possession of explosives, a pistol and cyanide.
The jail terms for those offences will be served concurrently with the murder sentence.
