Although this weekend temperatures are mild, they’re set to soar on Monday, with Blenheim reaching a scorching 35degC.

MetService predicts high temperatures for most eastern parts of the South Island, with Cantabrians expecting temperatures 30degC or above.

A warm air mass from Australia is also expected to move over the country today and tomorrow, with northwesterly winds building by Monday to create “the perfect recipe for soaring temperatures”.

The North Island remains with temperatures ranging in the 20s, but these are expected to heat up on Tuesday.

Christchurch is expected to reach 33 degC, Dunedin 30 degC, Wellington 21 degC and Auckland 23 degC.
