Public urged to report suspicious behaviour in Lincoln

A female jogger was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man in Lincoln last week, though no formal complaint has been made, Canterbury Police say.

"We take reports of this nature very seriously and urge the public to be vigilant when running or jogging on their own," Detective Senior Sergeant David Harvey says.

The incident is thought to have occurred in a public area opposite to the Lincoln University grounds.

"Police urge anyone who sees anybody acting suspiciously when they are out and about to report it straight away. We are also keen to hear from any other runners or joggers in the Lincoln area who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously," he says.

Canterbury Police have a dedicated team of trained detectives working with victims of sexual assaults.

"We understand how difficult it is to report incidents of such a personal nature and commend the bravery of the victims who contact police. Their actions could prevent someone else becoming a victim," Det Snr Sgt Harvey says.

You can report suspicious behaviour by calling the Crime Reporting Line on (03) 363 7400 or visiting your local police station.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
