In the same week that 20-year radio veteran Mike Puru announced his departure from the flagship Jay Jay, Mike and Dom breakfast, the trio have launched into a life-changing new segment called 'do gooders'.
Puru set off for Whangarei yesterday to do something he has admittedly wanted to do for a very long time.
In a video posted to Facebook, Puru recalls how he met a little girl suffering from a brain tumour at Starship Children's Hospital a while back.
Hope and her family have travelled back and forth from Moerewa to Auckland, a 218km journey for almost two years.
The six-year-old has had four different operations, three different types of chemotherapy and 33 rounds of radiation – so Puru decided to add a few smiles to that tally as well.
