Equipment used to do car wheel alignments was probably the only thing that stopped a driver doing more damage after their car ploughed through a Wellington building.

Police were called to the Viaduct Service Centre on Glenmore St around 6:15pm yesterday, after the car crashed into the side of the building.

No one was injured in the incident and it did not block the road.

A photo of the crash was posted to the Vid Deals Facebook page last night and has had nearly 1000 likes.

Store manager Dan Isaac says he'd just locked up the shop about 15 minutes before the incident.

He believes the vehicle only stopped when it hit a four-post hoist used to do wheel alignments on cars, because there were no brake marks on the road.

The hoist was probably a write-off, though the business is insured.

Mr Isaac says though he and staff spent the morning cleaning up, the business is still running at "half capacity".

He says something needs to happen about the corner of Glenmore St where the incident happened and where the business is located.

"Most days we're getting people tooting their horns at each other, screeching of tyres – it's quite a dangerous place."
