A child has died after being hit by a vehicle in Kinleith, Tokoroa this morning.
The incident occurred on a private driveway around 9:30am.
Police say the serious crash unit is on the scene and an investigation has been launched.
According to a St Johns spokeswoman, an ambulance rushed to the scene, but the child had already died.
Safekids New Zealand is currently running a driveway safety campaign in conjunction with partners with the slogan "check for me before you turn the key".
Five children are killed each year in New Zealand driveways and 20 are injured.
Most injured children are under two years of age.
