Horses go under the hammer at Karaka sales

Karaka horse sales kick off today, marking a very important week for New Zealand breeders.

More than 100,000 horses will go under the hammer over the next week with an expected turnover of $70 million.

New Zealand Bloodstock sales manager Danny Rolston says Kiwi horses attract international attention.

"We have a real appeal to the international market and they are so important to your industry because domestically we don't race for big prize money so it's sale day that puts the money in the coffers," Mr Rolston says.
